Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is an under reported and distressing psychological condition & it’s different to general body image concerns. Do you worry a lot about your appearance and wish you could think about it less? People with BDD have a preoccupation with body image, ruminating and comparing their features negatively with those of others. The preoccupation often covers multiple parts of the body; may fluctuate over time & shift to another area of the body. CBT treatment includes Imagery Restructuring (addressing specific memories that may have contributed to triggering the condition), Attention Training (ability to switch to an external focus) and the gentle challenging unhelpful perceptions using a range of techniques.
